As you know, Melina needed a bone marrow transplant in order to survive.  She did receive a cord blood transplant from Milan, Italy on June 23, 2004. Since then, it has been very important to Mike and I to spread the word that bone marrow/cord blood transplants are life saving. I had the chance to meet the Tour Manager of Love Hope Strength and he agreed to be a part of our tournament last year to help get as many new people as possible onto the national and international Bone Marrow Registry. With that, we held a Bone Marrow Drive and we were able to register 35 new donors! I thank all of the new donors from the bottom of my heart and I hope to hear one day that a match was made because of our tournament.

If you are curious about this organization, please check out www.lovehopestrength.org for more
info!

Also, I have been incredibly honored over the last several years to be able to inspire people with Melina's story through the Team in Training, a large part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I truly believe that one day they will be the organization to find a cure to keep our kiddos alive! If you are so inclined, please check out www.lls.org and see what incredible things they are up to and how you can help.

So, our hole for Lucas last year was such a success, that we decided that it needs to be an annual event. This year, we get the honor to introduce you to Delaney. Delaney will be our Cancer Champion this year!! Here is a little bit about her. We are hopeful that she feels up to coming to dinner along with her parents, Tom and Stacy and 2 of her sisters, Mackenzie and Ashley. Emily is away at college and won't be able to attend.  And, her she is ~ Delaney, 6 years old, is a kindergartner at Redstone Elementary in Highlands Ranch.  On February 25th of this year, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  She hasn't let it slow her down one bit as she is still the same little goofball she was before her diagnosis.  She is a little tomboy who likes the Denver Broncos, legos, Star Wars, and all things Mustache.  She is the youngest of our four daughters and is doing great in her fight against leukemia.  She can be followed at www.nomoreadventures.com or her facebook page is www.facebook.com/CancerCanKissMyStache.

We are so excited to be hosting the 7th Annual Melina Wachter Memorial Golf Tournament again this year! Our event will be on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club.

With the help of our wonderful golfers, sponsors, volunteers and donations we were able to raise $11,000.00 last year. It was a great year!

With that money, we generously donated to Children's Colorado Foundation for the Oncology/Bone Marrow Unit, the PICU and the Bereavement group. All 3 departments are so important to Mike and I.

We have also been able to help several kiddos going through cancer and their families with monetary donations for them to use as they see fit.  Last year, we had a special hole that raised money to give to our neighbor and very sweet boy, Lucas, who has a brain tumor. Mike, the kids and I were able to give his family $1,650 from that hole alone!! It was amazing! It is incredibly rewarding to be able to help these kids, especially when we get to meet them in person.

This event was started to help Mike and I with hospital/medical bills that were incurred when Melina got sick. It turned into a memorial tournament when Melina passed away a few weeks before the first event. Since then, we continue to grow and are so overwhelmed by the love and generousity of so many who have been with us from the beginning. Since then, we have formed the Melina Wachter Memorial Foundation to really make an impact on families and kids here in Colorado!

If you are interested in playing golf, becoming a sponsor or would like to donate an item to our gift bags, silent auction or drawing, please get in touch with Desiree' Wachter, Melina's mommy

Thank you so much for you continued support of our family and our mission to help kiddos here in Colorado who have cancer and make everyone aware that our kids do get and die of cancer.
